Welcome to the Honors College Class of 2022!
The Honors faculty and staff look forward to getting to know you. We hope this letter will help you prepare for a successful first year on campus.
I assume you’ve registered for Orientation this summer. If you have not, you can register for orientation by visiting: http://orientation.utah.edu/orientation/first-year-fall-semester.php
Honors students attend a pre-orientation Honors session that starts at 8:15am on day-one of orientation. At this session, you’ll learn more about the Honors degree and unique opportunities available to you as a member of the Honors College.
Don’t forget to explore some of the unique opportunities Honors offers, including learning communities and special courses. You may also be interested in joining a Scholars Group, which allow you to explore your interests in a non-classroom setting. You will meet with an Honors advisor to further discuss these options at orientation.
This Summer the Honors College community is reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, who was awarded a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant in recognition of her use of science fiction to explore provocative social topics. Please read the novel and prepare to participate in small group discussions led by distinguished faculty, deans and other members of the University community in the Fall.
Your main source of information about the Honors College is our website: www.honors.utah.edu. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the curriculum and check back frequently for new information and opportunities. Additionally, I highly encourage you to join our Honors Class of 2022 Facebook page, as well as our Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Congratulations! We look forward to the unique qualities you will bring to our active community of curious, motivated and civically oriented scholars.
Sylvia Torti, Ph.D. Dean, Honors College
