Outdoor Education Leadership Community

Students and faculty in the Outdoor Education and Leadership Community (OELC) create a core community through outdoor exploration. Students recommended for this Living Learning Community:

  • First-year Honors College students
  • Students interested in outdoor leadership, sustainability and preservation
  • Students who want to explore the wilderness spaces and recreation/adventure opportunities in and around the University of Utah
  • Students who want to complete 4 of the required courses for an Honors degree

HONOR 2300 – Outdoor Recreation & Leadership

*Students with qualifying AP scores/IB certificates may not opt out of this requirement. Honors Writing professors strongly recommend that all Honors students take this course.

This Living Learning Community requires students to dedicate the Fridays of the first half of Fall semester or the Fridays of the first half of Spring semester to outdoor activities.  Students who have major class requirements on Fridays will be unable to participate in this community.

Additionally, students are required to meet with Honors College Academic Advisors for Mandatory Freshman Advising.
