Rhodes Scholarship

Funding for 2-3 years of postgraduate study in any field at the University of Oxford

The Rhodes Scholarships is the oldest and most prestigious international scholarship program, enabling young people from around the world to study any course at the University of Oxford. It is a life-changing opportunity for students of demonstrated academic ability and good character to make a difference in the world. It is a life-long connection which goes far beyond financial value. The scholarship covers university tuition and fees, airfare, a stipend, and international healthcare for 2 years and in some cases, can be extended to 3 years.


  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or active DACA program status by the time of application
  • Be at least 18 and not yet 24 by October 1st of the year of application


  • If your first undergraduate degree was completed later than usual, you must not have reached your 27th birthday AND hold a bachelor’s degree on or after October 1st of the prior calendar year
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.7 or higher by the start of the award
  • Endorsement from the University of Utah


  • 32 per year from the United States; 100 per year overall

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic excellence
  • Energy to use your talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, including where teamwork is involved)
  • Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • Moral force of character and instincts to lead and to take an interest in your fellow human beings

University Endorsement Process:

  • University endorsement is a competitive process and not guaranteed. Students seeking University of Utah endorsement must submit certain application components by the University’s deadline. The U may nominate up to two applicants each year for the Rhodes Scholarship.

Length of Program: 2 years, but can potentially be extended for a 3rd year
