Grassroots Community Leadership

In this Praxis Lab, students worked directly with residents of Salt Lake City's west side as part of the Westside Leadership Institute (WLI), a partnership supported by University Neighborhood Partners (UNP). The course took an innovative approach to encouraging civic engagement by empowering individuals from diverse cultural, political, and socio-economic backgrounds to become leaders in their communities.

Students collaborated on real, community-driven issues, exploring critical questions such as: What defines a community leader? How do leaders mobilize people to address complex issues? What tools can effectively bridge cultural differences in leadership? Through hands-on experience, students not only investigated these questions but also contributed to meaningful community change.
