Book Festival – 15 Bytes Book Awards Winner and Finalists +info

Join us for readings from the 15 Bytes book awards! Winner Jeri Parker will be joined by runners-up Melanie Rae Thon and UNIVERSITY OF UTAH HONORS PROFESSOR–Paul Ketzle to share their works recognized by 15 Bytes magazine, an online magazine dedicated to visual arts in Utah, published by Artists of Utah.

In Jeri Parker’s winning novel UNMOORED, Rennie returns home to find out what happened to her father. During her search, she learns what we get to keep and what we don’t, what we want to know, and what we can’t let ourselves know, what we love and what we unwittingly betray.

In Melanie Rae Thon’s SILENCE AND SONG, she investigates in two short stories and a prose poem, the “miraculous resilience” of all the living in the aftermath of violent devastation-whether that devastation is personal or suffered worldwide in places like Chernobyl or the American borderlands.

Paul Ketzle’s THE LATE MATTHEW BROWN‘S protagonist is a fraud. He has ascended to associate director of the Department of Corrections, but is tasked with organizing the state’s first execution in a decade. Arrives Hero, the daughter Matthew never knew existed and who may be his only chance for personal redemption.

The readings will be followed by signings with all three authors. Part of the Utah Humanities Book Festival.
