T, H 9:10 am-12:00 pm
Meets from July 1st-25th, 2014

This workshop will focus on the summer productions of the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City. Introductory sessions will discuss the plays as literary texts in terms of plot action, character, themes, dialogue, imagery and structure. We will then see the plays in production during a weekend in Cedar City and closely observe the theatrical spaces and productions values through a backstage tour and interviews with actors and designers. Once we return to Salt Lake City, we will discuss the plays in performance in terms of space, stage design, costumes, props, music, lighting, acting, directorial conception and execution.

The overnight field trip to the Utah Shakespeare Festival for Summer 2014 will take place from July 11th-13th. Students will have the opportunity to attend the following shows:

  • Measure for Measure
  • Comedy of Errors
  • Henry IV
  • Twelfth Night (opt)
