Details

The Mitchell Scholarship is designed to introduce and connect future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to public service. The award provides tuition fees, accommodations, a living stipend, and an international travel stipend for a 1-year Master's degree in any discipline in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Annual Number of Scholarships Awarded

  • ~12 per year



Eligibility

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Hold a bachelor's degree by the start of the award
  • Be at least 18 years of age, but not yet 30 years of age by September 30th of the application year



Selection Criteria

  • Academic excellence
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Sustained commitment to community and public service

University Endorsement Process

University endorsement is a competitive process and not guaranteed. Students seeking University of Utah endorsement must submit certain application components by the University’s deadline.

Mid-April: Mitchell Application Opens

August 28, 2023: University Deadline

Early September: University endorsement interviews for potential applicants

September 28, 2023 by 3 pm MST: National Deadline

Early October: Short video interview deadline

Late October: Semi-finalist interviews

Late November: Finalist interviews

Late November: Notification of selection
