Marshall Scholarship

Funding for 1-2 years of postgraduate study in any field (exceptions apply) at any university in the United Kingdom

Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high achievement and ability to study for a degree in any field at any university in the United Kingdom. The scholarship allows scholars, who are the potential leaders and decision-makers in their own countries, to gain an understanding and appreciation of British values and ways of life, while establishing a long-lasting tie between people of Britain and the U.S. Scholarships are either a year or two years of length and cover tuition fees, books, a thesis grant, research, daily travel and fares to and from the U.S.


  • Be a U.S. citizen by the time of application
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States by start of the award
  • Have a GPA of 3.7 or higher at the time of application
  • Graduated from first undergraduate degree after April 2018
  • Not studied for, or hold a degree or degree-equivalent qualification from a British University or GCSE or A Levels taken at school in the UK
  • Endorsement from the University of Utah

University Endorsement Process:

  • University endorsement is a competitive process and not guaranteed. Students seeking University of Utah endorsement must submit certain application components by the University’s deadline.

NOTE: Marshall Scholarships are available for 1 or 2 years for master’s degrees. If applying for a 1-year scholarship, the course has to be at least 12 months in length and funding cannot be extended. If applying for a 2-year scholarship, funding can be extended to 3 years if completing a doctorate. Rules for 1- and 2-year scholarships are found below:

Late October/Early November: Notification of finalists

Mid-November: Finalist interviews
