Knight-Hennessy Scholarship

Funding for up to 3 years for postgraduate study in any field at Stanford University

The Knight Hennessy Scholarship is an international graduate level scholarship for study at Stanford University. Through this program, scholars develop the skills to communicate, collaborate, and innovate across disciplines to tackle complex challenges and discover new solutions that will advance humanity. The scholarship covers tuition fees, a living stipend a travel stipend for travel to and from Stanford.



  • Meet the requirements of the graduate program you wish to pursue
  • Hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing
  • Received your first bachelor’s degree within 6 years of application
    • S. military (active or veteran) receive a two-year extension and are eligible if you received your undergraduate degree within 8 years of application
  • Applying to enroll in a full-time graduate program at Stanford


  • Up to 100 per year
    • ~1/3 from the U.S.
    • ~2/3 from countries outside the U.S.

  • Standardized tests if applicable to the graduate degree program
  • Short answers and essay responses (prompts found on the website)
  • Video statement submitted after the application
  • 2 letters of recommendation


NOTE: Priority is given to applicants who will spend at least 2 years at Stanford

NOTE: It is imperative that applicants understand the necessity to apply to both the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program as well as their desired graduate program



External deadline: October 14, 2020 by 2 pm MST



Early May: Application opens

Early September: University deadline, if wanting a university endorsement

October 14, 2020 by 2 pm MST: National deadline

Fall: Apply to your Stanford graduate program. Graduate application deadlines vary

Mid-December: After submitting your online application, submit your video statement

Mid-January: Notification of finalists

Early February: Finalists invited to Immersion Weekend

April: Notification of selection

Length of Program: Up to 3 years of funding
