Honors Alumna Tiffany Chan from Salt Lake City, UT, recently accepted an offer to attend Oxford University. Tiffany graduated from the University of Utah in the spring of 2023 with HBA degrees in both Political Science and Economics.
As a first-generation college student, Tiffany struggled with feelings of imposter syndrome, which is a lack of confidence that she didn’t measure up to her classmates. Tiffany learned to overcome her insecurities as she pushed herself outside of her comfort zone. A huge source of strength was her Honors community at the University of Utah. Tiffany knows that her feelings are common among many students and would encourage any student struggling with feelings of imposter syndrome to be intentional about reaching out to others and welcoming them into your circle.
Tiffany will be pursuing a Master of Philosophy in International Relations and Affairs. Within her program she will be paired with a faculty mentor who will guide her in researching and writing a Master’s thesis. She is excited to have an individualized educational path that will help prepare her to pursue her professional goals.
Long-term, Tiffany hopes to explore a variety of educational and career paths after completing her degree. She has considered pursuing additional education such as a JD or PhD. She would like to be a lawyer or policy maker specializing in international law with an emphasis in trade law or labor law. Because of her passion in social development and economic development for women in economically disadvantaged countries, Tiffany dreams of working in the United Nations, an intergovernmental organization, or a think tank. She is especially interested in bridging the gender wage gap for women in Asia.
We are thrilled to celebrate Tiffany’s acceptance into Oxford University and we are excited to see where this new educational path takes her.
